77 Films prides itself in making edgy films and documentaries that inspire and tantalize the mind. Founder Kimberly Gray, began her career in the fashion industry as a celebrity stylist and fashion editor. Before turning her focus on production, she worked as a costumer on major motion pictures like Summer of Sam and Exit Wounds. After which she worked as an assistant to producer Andrew Lauren on the recently released G with Blair Underwood. Most recently she worked with Director Cle Sloan on the highly publicized feature doc Bastards of the Party (Fuqua Films) which will be in theaters summer 2006 followed by a run on cabler, HBO. Along with Ms. Gray, 77 Films partner producer/director Maria Clara is a filmmaker on the rise. Maria offers a strong production background including direction, editing, and producing. Her credits include advertising production for Saatchi & Saatchi, Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam and Bamboozled, Disappearing Acts, and the Academy Award winning Election. At 17 she was a 1st assistant director for various film and television projects in Brazil. Currently she is a freelance producer for Univision and O2 Productions (producers behind City of God) She plans to return to Brazil to shoot more American / Brazilian co-productions in commercials and film. This team embodies a youthful creative perspective, knowledgeable business attitude, and the technical expertise that creates an exceptional production company.
As a production company, 77 Films will produce feature films and documentaries. Life on Christopher Street a documentary about gay black and Latino youth in New York’s West Village was recently acquired by Artizical Entertainment to distribute the film on home video and DVD. It is slated for a June 06 release. Also in production is Out in Manhattan a two part tale which includes Chelsea Boys and Pride. 77 Films has worked with MTV’s for its World AIDS Day production and licensed footage for Channel 13’s weekly series NY Stories. The production company is developing its first feature length film based on a Novel by author Donald Goines. The director and producer team divide there time between New York and Rio de Janeiro where they do most of their post production.
